PORT HEDLAND SPEEDWAY

Beginning with the Pippingarra Speedway which was an old scratched out track and then destroyed in 1970, the Port Hedland Speedway was then built by a group of people known as Pippingarra Legends.

Names like Bill ‘The Mule’ Francis, Col Hardinge, Harry Jones, Dave Macpherson and Brad ‘Big Brad’ Anderson have also been made legends for their time at the Speedway.

Port Hedland Speedway outlasted tracks at Goldsworthy and then Shay Gap and upon the latter’s closing in 1988, Port Hedland benefitted, funds and equipment being transferred to Port Hedland.
