GOOD SPORTS PROGRAM

GOOD SPORTS PROGRAM

The Western Australian Speedway Commission has chosen to support the introduction of the Good Sports Program into Western Australian Speedway Clubs.

Every year in Australia 5,500 people die from alcohol related injuries, illness and accidents; with another 150,000 people hospitalised. With more people dying from alcohol-related issues than the national road toll, Speedway clubs are the perfect place to foster healthy attitudes and behaviours toward alcohol for example: no drink driving, alcohol and celebrating victory, fundraising, gifts and general consumption in association with sport. Our youth coming through the Speedway clubs are our future and we need to ensure they become the best they can be.

The Good Sports Program is designed to support responsible alcohol management and practices for adults participating in community sporting clubs. Good Sports is Australia’s largest preventive health program for the community-sporting sector, with more than 6,500 community sporting clubs involved around Australia.  In Western Australia there are over 300 clubs across 37 sporting codes.
